Although the seeming quietude of the rugged and dogged journey so far really conceals a great deal of the Herculean task of preparing a 5th volume of Al-Bayaan. We therefore express our profound gratitude to Allah for His limitless generosity of which we are beneficiaries. Let us not bore you with the gory details of the sorting and sieving process while editing the bulk of submitted articles even if this was the least of our problems, but we certainly say no thanks to the computer virus to which we severally lost already typed articles. But with Allah’s assistance our efforts were not in waste.
This year’s edition is but an effort to sustain a high pedestal which the journal has come to attain over time. Our lead entry comes from a seasoned writer and ardent researcher popular for his scholasticism which he aptly displays in his PHASES OF 20TH AND 21TH CENTURY JAHILIYYAH, a very contemporary article that becomes more relevant in an ideologically embattled world of the Muslims. The Enlightenment Office, despite their very busy office, did an extensively researched work in FOOD: BETWEEN THE PROHIBITED AND THE PERMISSIBLE, while interestingly extending the work to cover the often misconstrued concept of jalaala. Mr Mahfouz Adedimeji, a lecturer in English Department, provoked the sleeping minds in a soul stirring masterpiece, WHY ARE YOU HERE?, while bro. Oseni Umar launched into a fierce polemic in his DANISH CARTOONS: A RIPOSTE TO THE CALUMNIATION OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD, in which he came down hard on the recent Danish cartoon publication, while proffering practical and decisive steps as way forward in an uncompromising finality. A few collection of mellifluous poems from young exotic artists added a fine blend of quintessential excellence to the works in the journal. On the opinion polls, the topic seeks a way forward for the Muslims among a trio of options that has held sway among Muslims: The Bullet, The Ballot and The Pen, which is the way? May we say at this point that this publication, despite its flourish of rich articles, had to exclude the references of these articles for want of space. This was despite its being an important preoccupation in our minds in the course of compiling these articles, but hope to overcome this limitation in future editions.
We would like to say a hearty jazakumullahu khairan to the members of the Editorial Board who strove to see the success of this work. Also is the Amir, for the personal time he spent to see to it that we were not overwhelmed by the much demanding work. So also to all those who gave financial support to this publication, we shall remain ever grateful to you. May Allah reward you generously. And to all those who assisted in the course of typing the articles, we say may Allah reward you abundantly.
May Allah accept this from us as Ibadah.
